Ingredient concerns

Wheat Gluten (medium concern): Like corn gluten meal, wheat gluten serves as an inexpensive plant protein that inflates the total protein percentage. It was also at the center of the 2007 pet food recall when melamine-contaminated wheat gluten from China caused widespread kidney failure in pets.
Carrageenan (high concern): Research has shown that both degraded carrageenan (poligeenan) and food-grade carrageenan can promote intestinal inflammation in animal models. Studies have linked carrageenan exposure to intestinal lesions, ulcerations, and colitis-like symptoms in laboratory animals.
