Frequently asked questions

Who makes Pure Balance pet food?

Pure Balance is manufactured by Walmart house brand (Ainsworth / J.M. Smucker).

Where is Pure Balance made?

Pure Balance pet food is made in US.

Is Pure Balance WSAVA-aligned?

Pure Balance is not on our WSAVA-aligned shortlist. That doesn't automatically mean the food is poor quality — many strong brands haven't pursued WSAVA recognition — but it means we lack independent confirmation of feeding-trial validation and on-staff veterinary nutritionist staffing.

Has Pure Balance ever been recalled?

No Pure Balance recall appears in FDA's pet food recall list for the last five years. A recall filed under a parent company's or co-packer's name may not be linked here; FDA's recall list is the definitive source.

How does Pure Balance score in our analysis?

Pure Balance averages 65/100 across 23 products in our catalog. Individual product scores combine ingredient quality, AAFCO compliance, and controversial-additive severity. See the methodology page for the full algorithm.
